Seekers, your assistance is needed once again. Only the Kinfire light can protect against the Starless Nights. Along with these Starless Nights, other myths have been reawakened as well. The Wells of Atios warp reality, so we need you to remain grounded and face them. Guildmaster Leera is sending you to the Well known as Callous’ Lab to seek victory and protection for us all. We’re counting on you.

Cooperative or Solo – Players play alone or work together to take down the Well Master

Action Selection / Multi-Use Cards – Each turn the active Seeker chooses a card in the Well to interact with. This can be a challenge card (which has a difficulty value they need to meet) or an event (with instructions for the player(s) to follow). Players can play an action card to give them a base value to put toward challenges and then cards with matching boost abilities can be used to boost the action’s value (boost yourself in solo, boost each other in multi-player).

Dice Rolling – When attempting a challenge, players will roll the dice to attempt to get additional successes to add to their action card/boosts. They will always roll, even if they did not play a card, and sometimes certain roll faces can effect the outcome beyond the number of successes.

Variable Player Powers – Each seeker has a unique ability to use throughout the game, when applicable.

Hand Management – Players do not refill their hand each turn, but instead only draw when cards or abilities allow it. If they run out of cards, they need to exhaust themselves by taking an exhaust card in order to refill their hand.

  • 1 – 2 Players – It’s good solo, but I prefer it with 2 because I really like how the decks and abilities interact with each other. If you combine it with Seekers from previous boxes, you can play with more players
  • Ages 12 & Up / Mid-Weight Gamers – Rules are pretty simple, light strategy
  • Fans of cooperative or solo play, variable player powers, and other Kinfire games
  • Players who don’t mind some luck with cards and dice

  • Aesthetics – Great art, love the foiling on the card backs
  • Components – Good quality cards, dice, tokens
  • Good variety of challenge cards
  • Seeker abilities are unique from previous games, and work well together
  • Gauntlet cards are also unique and really help increase the tension of the final battle stage
  • Replay value – Never know which cards will come out of the well vs which will get skipped
  • Turns are quick and smooth
  • I don’t love that the achievements are in the center of the rulebook
  • I always wish there were more opportunities to light the lanterns
  • The starting progress on Callous feels weird because you lose if they are all gone before you get through the Well, but it’s really out of your control because of how cards come out

Another solid installment in the series. I think these might be my favorite characters, especially because one lets the boosted seeker draw cards. Some elements can feel a bit more lucky at times, but it’s not too bad. You still have plenty of room to plan and be strategic. Overall, it works well, and it’s a fun time!
