For the Love of Dice!

Hey there high (and low) rollers! I wanted to take a blog post to talk a little bit about dice and a few different (random-ish) aspects of them because, in case you didn’t know, I LOVE dice!

There are so many varieties and lots of reasons to buy them all up … especially if you just like to find excuses to buy them, like me. From RPG needs to board game upgrades and more, picking out the perfect sets is so much fun! I personally find it difficult to pull myself away from dice displays at stores and conventions, and more often than not I end up buying a set or two, even if I have no real plans for them other than “they look so nice!” So let’s dive ever so slightly deeper into the dice pool and talk about what’s to love about dice! Or, well, what I love about dice … but maybe you’ll love these things too!

Mentally Prepping for PAX!

Hey Gamer Fam!

During and in the aftermath of Gen Con, which I wasn’t able to attend, I saw a lot of really awesome posts and photos and game announcements that got me super excited for PAX Unplugged! I know it still seems like a while away, but when it’s the one big con a year you attend (like me) it’s cool to get stoked a bit early!

I already can’t wait to roam the vendor hall (at least 10 times), play a ton of new-to-me games, buy some new swag and games, and find the best pins. But, time for some real talk.

Amidst all my excitement for these things that I’ve done at PAXs past, I’m also feeling a bit more anxiety than usual, coupled with maybe a bit of imposter syndrome? Let me break it down a little bit.

How We (Finally) Trimmed Our Collection!

Hey Gamers! A while back (and I mean a while) I made a post with some quick tips to trim a collection! In general, I would still say that those are good suggestions and could definitely be helpful if you’re looking for ideas on how to cut out some games.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t doing a great job at following my own advice and my fiancé and I were being equally bad influences for the whole situation. Our collection was growing too large with games we didn’t really want or need. So, now speaking with a little more experience, here’s how we finally got rid of some of those dust collecting games!

Rule Readers Unite! … When You’re Done Reading the Rules

Do you have someone in your game group that typically reads ALL the rule books for every game? Do you praise them every chance you get for doing that? Well, maybe you should! My fiancé is typically the “Rule Master,” if you will; he reads them, teaches me/the group the game, and references the rules during the game if there are questions or confusions. I never really thought about how much work rule reading was … until now. Now that I review games a bunch more, I have to read the rules to those and teach them as well. Thanks to that, I have a newfound respect for anyone who does this all the time because, well, here’s why:
