Let’s Play a Caption Game!

Hey friends! It’s time for my next entry in the Tabletop Writers Diversity Initiative with “Challenge Four: Caption This!” The first group of images below were graciously provided by the TWDI for participants to caption. I had a bunch of fun coming up with little comments for these, and encourage you to try as well! I’ve also included an image of my own at the very bottom for you to take a whack at! Have fun, and, as always, Happy Gaming~

Tabletop Writers Diversity Initiative: Challenge 1

it me.

Hey there! My name is Steph & I run the Settler of the Boards blog. I’m someone that would rather play games than go pretty much anywhere, even when I’m not quarantined, I have bright red hair & 5 tattoos, & I like oversized sweatshirts. If you’ve been here before, you probably already knew at least some of that. But if you’re new here, hello! & welcome 🙂 I wanted to start off with a quick intro for Week One of this project, but let’s jump right into the 1st challenge – “The Game(s) That Brought You Into The Hobby.”

The ABC’s of Gaming!

Always Be Closing! No wait… Michael Scott said that’s sales. Hmm… Always Be Collecting? Maybe for some, but not entirely necessary. Hmm… Approachable, Beautiful, Captivating? Okay, so there’s probably not one single way to describe the “ABC’s of Gaming” as it were, but hey, that’s not really the point here. (Tricked ya, didn’t I?)

As you may have noticed, on weekends over the last few months, I’ve been posting days “Brought to you by the letter ___,” and thus playing through some of my games alphabetically. It was a pretty fun little experience/project that I actually got a lot out of, so I wanted to put together some final thoughts, as well as a list of all the games I enjoyed during it, in case you want to try it out yourself and/or needed to find some more games to add to your rosters ! Check it out and let me know if you do decide to try with your own collection! What’s your favorite letter for games? Are you missing any letters in your collection that you’d like to get?

Happy Gaming~

2019 Year In Review

Heyyyyy, Gamers! In addition to my Top 100, I wanted to do a short post to recap my 2019 game playing! It’s not much, but I still thought it would be fun. And I included a few things specific to my favorite gaming partner as well. What did your 2019 stats look like? What are your 2020 gaming goals, if any?

Number of Plays: 1,200
Unique Games Played: 708
Different People Played With: 100
Unique Locations Played At: 16
Hours Spent Playing Games: 645
Number of Days Played: 291
H-Index: 9  –  If you aren’t familiar with H-index, this is the number of games we played at least that many times, i.e. 9 games, 9 times. The games we played at least 9 times were Charterstone, Betrayal Legacy, Space Base, Tumblin’ Dice, Bonk, Fish Feud, Monikers, Sagrada, Heart of Crown, Are You a Robot?, and Martian Dice
My Win Percent: 49%
Stephen’s Win Percent: 45%
My Favorite New-to-Me in 2019 Games: Fleet: The Dice Game, Natsumemo, and Tag City (Surprise, they’re all roll-and-writes! haha); Additionally, Space Base: Shy Pluto was my favorite new-to-me expansion in 2019.
Stephen’s Favorite New-to-Him in 2019 Games: Heart of Crown: Fairy Garden and Welcome To…
2020 Goals: I don’t really think it’s going to happen, just because of how busy we tend to be with life, but my goals would be to have 1,500 plays, play on 300 days, and have an H-Index of 10!

Additionally — An Announcement!

Going forward in reviews, I’m going to be changing up my ratings. I’ll be eliminating the “Difficulty” section and instead moving that rating into my “Final Thoughts” alongside overall game rating and aesthetics rating, all of which will be out of 10. That’s all! Thanks for sticking with me in 2019, can’t wait to talk about games throughout all of 2020!

Happy Gaming~

Surviving PAX Unplugged!

Hello Gamers! As you may or may not know, PAX Unplugged is coming up quick! For those of you going, I’M SUPER EXCITED TO SEE YOU ALL; SAY HI IF YOU SEE ME! (She said in a definitely not-crazy scream. Cause she’s not crazy, and definitely doesn’t awkwardly speak in the 3rd person before finally getting back to the point).

For all you first-timers, and maybe some of you bad-packers, I’ve made a quick survival checklist to help you make sure you’ve got what you need to be prepared, hopefully avoid con crud, and most of all, have a great time!

Let’s check it out! 😀
