Are you a trombone champ? Well, it’s time to become one! Play each song as best you can, and really show your opponents your epic tooting skills!

โœจTheme – Music
๐ŸŽฏThe Goal of the game is to be the first to earn 15 (short game) or 20 (long game) toots
โš™๏ธCard Game / Hand Management – Players have a hand of 3 cards and will play one each turn, or discard them all to redraw their hand. Notes are played to songs, Finito cards finish songs, hot dogs block opponents’ notes from scoring, the baboon eats hot dogs, and uppercuts swap note cards around
โš™๏ธSet Collection – Players can score bonus points by playing certain sets of notes on certain songs
โš™๏ธTake That – Hot dogs and uppercut cards will mess with opponents. Players can also cause “blowouts” if they play the same note to a song as the last one played – covering it up so they get the points instead of their opponent

๐Ÿ‘ฅ2 to 4 Players – With the expansion, you can play up to 5 players. I’d say 2 is my least favorite, because of the player interaction, but 3+ all works well
๐Ÿ‘ฅAges 10 & Up – Gameplay is very approachable
๐Ÿ‘ฅFans of the video game this is based on, silly cards game, and hand management, who don’t mind some take-that

๐ŸŸขAesthetics – Fun art, bright colors
๐ŸŸขSilly “fun facts”/flavor text on cards
๐ŸŸขTurns are snappy
๐ŸŸขRules are well written
๐ŸŸขNice quality components
๐ŸŸขLots of variety in the song deck

๐Ÿ”ดYou don’t have a lot of choice on your turn, so sometimes your turns feel a bit boring if you’re just playing a note
๐Ÿ”ดI feel like the game had a slow start because you only start with 1 song card out
๐Ÿ”ดThe game could also feel slow at times as players would hesitate to finish a song if someone else was getting more points than them, and it would give the next player more options in some cases

I liked the video game a lot, which is why I was interested in this. But, unfortunately, I didn’t think the idea translated as well to the board game. I realized most of the fun of the video game was listening to how well (or not) you played the songs and working to improve. You aren’t gaining more cards during this game, so you aren’t really improving, you just hope you can play your special cards at the best times to attack others or score well yourself. It’s fine, and still has some of the charming humor of the video game, but I just felt like it fell a little flat for me.
