There’s no such thing as too many cats…right? Well, sometimes there are a few more cats or kittens than you anticipated. But, you’ll just have to try and show them off as best you can in the adoption shelter so they can all find their forever homes! Can you wrangle up these cats and tend to their needs to score the most points? Let’s find out!

Drafting – Each turn, players will draft a group of tokens (kittens/toys) and draft 1 or 2 cat cards, depending on the size of the token group

Tile Placement – Players will place cats onto their shelter board. Certain cats want to be in groups of the same types, or next to different types of cats, or in certain areas of the grid in order to score more points

Set Collection – As players collect kitten tokens, they’ll try to make sets of 7 different types of kittens, and/or groups of 4 of the same type of kittens. Those not in groups at the end of the game will be worth negative points

  • 1 to 6 Players – I thought solo mode was okay. I’d say this is best at 2 or 3 as it’s too long for the higher player counts
  • Ages 12 & Up – The mechanisms of drafting and placing cats/making sets are simple enough for a large age/skill range, but the scoring is kind of lengthy, which may be harder for younger players to follow
  • Fans of drafting, set collection, tile placement, and cats!
  • Players who like having lots of ways to score

Solo – Play against an automated rival shelter. There are a few different options for the rival shelter which will adjust how it plays/scores. – I thought solo was fine. It seemed like it was a little on the easy side. I prefer the multi-player game personally, as I just thought it was more interesting than solo.

  • Aesthetics – Great, really cute, art
  • Components – Nice quality cards/tokens/everything
  • Turns are smooth
  • Lots of options for scoring points for the different cats/kittens
  • Fun theme
  • Good variety for solo opponents
  • Lightweight, but with interesting decision space each turn
  • Aesthetics – Some of the cat cards were kind of busy because some had multiple scoring conditions, plus their type(s)
  • Scoring – Scoring is slow. There’s a lot of things to score and it can take a while to evaluate every cat
  • Rules – Felt a bit vague in places
  • Negative 2 points per un-grouped kitten felt harsh because of the random nature of the groups and sometimes you get stuck having to take a bunch

I liked the overall game. I think the flow is good and I like strategizing about which tokens/cards are best for me each round. I think it is light enough to introduce younger or newer players to, but strategic enough to hold interest for more avid gamers, gameplay wise.

Unfortunately, the scoring really bogs this down for me. There’s just a lot to go through, it can take almost as long as the game. Because of that, I definitely wouldn’t play this with more than 3 players (maybe 4). If you can get past the long, tedious scoring, then you should check it out!
