Embark on an Adventure with The Phantom

Are you ready for an exciting escapade? How about an epic adventure through the jungle? Or would you prefer a close encounter with a pack of wolves? Whatever you choose, you’ll soon be immersed in an exciting story with enemies, allies, loot, and more! Let’s check it out!

What Is It?

A cooperative adventure game where players take on the role(s) of The Phantom himself and/or Diana. Players will work their way through 3 adventures, completing missions and gaining valuable resources, allies, abilities, and more into their decks. Each adventure is a bit different, with different win/loss conditions, and each has multiple difficulties to choose from as well. Each adventure brings players into a unique part of The Phantom’s universe.

Who Is It For?

  • 1 – 2 Players (I prefer solo, personally)
  • Ages 12+
  • Fans of The Phantom comic, who also like board games
  • Fans of immersive story games

PROS

  • Aesthetics – Great art + flavor text quotes from the comis
  • Components – Nice quality cards and decent cardboard pieces, I like that the resource tokens are double sided with different symbols
  • Variability – The various difficulty levels to choose from is neat and lets you replay the same story while still giving you a new challenge
  • Engaging Story
  • Easy set up
  • Smooth gameplay, reference included on player boards

CONS

  • Clean up is a bit long since you have to put all the cards back in order
  • The randomness/luck factor can be really high in certain cases, where it feels like there’s nothing you can do to change your inevitable loss

Final Thoughts

As I mentioned, the luck factor can often feel high, so if you prefer to be more in control, then this might not be for you; a lot depends on the shuffle from what resources you’re able to get to which enemies or other effects come out of the destiny deck.

Personally, I prefer this one solo, as I thought it was more engaging to work the way through the story myself. But if you like cooperative or solo games with an immersive story, this one might be for you, especially if you’re already a fan of The Phantom. Check it out!

So name a few games that you enjoy more than phantom, in a comparable genre.

Depends, what are you considering a comparable genre? I think the first similar style thing that comes to mind is Few and Cursed, which also has a hand management system where you are using your cards to collect symbols that you’ll spend to move, fight, etc. They’re not 100% the same of course, but it’s similar in that aspect, and I think it does that better. Phantom works well, but just had a high luck factor that made it often feel like you could not control the outcome by a certain point.
