The world’s unavoidable doom is on the horizon, that much is a fact. But until then, you will have to compete with each other for ultimate dominance – trying to curate the best set of traits among all the other Doomlings. Will you rise above the other lifeforms at the end of all the ages?

Hand Management – Players will play and draw cards every round. Their hand size will fluctuate based on their gene pool, which may also cause them to discard cards at times.

Take-That – Many cards will interact with other players or the state of the game – skipping turns, messing with their played cards, et cetera.

Set Collection – Some cards will have points on them, while others will score based off certain collections of cards players have.

Events – An event card is played every round which will affect the gameplay/players (i.e. you can’t play a certain color card)

  • 2 to 6 Players – Not great with less players because there’s not as much interaction. I think it’s best at 4 to 6.
  • Ages 8 & Up / Light Game Fans – Small ruleset, smooth gameplay, no heavy strategy
  • Fans of light card games
  • Players who don’t mind take-that

  • Aesthetics – Great art work – so cute!
  • Components – Nice quality cards
  • Easy set up / clean up
  • Quick and smooth turns
  • Approachable
  • Cute theme
  • Variability – There’s a ton of trait cards and plenty of age cards so every game is a little different!
  • Passing 1st player when catastrophes came out was hard to remember and confused gameplay a little
  • Luck of the draw can sometimes leave you with minimal moves
  • The fluctuating hand size being different for each player can also lead to some players having less choice than others

Overall, it’s a cute little game. I like the art, the theme, and the humor of a lot of the cards. It has a very familiar feel to other light, family-friendly card games, so it’ll be easy for fans of that style of game to dive right in.

I tend to feel the luck in these types of games quite a bit, which can sometimes be disappointing, like if I don’t have any interesting cards (i.e. actions) while others do, if my turn gets skipped, or if I have to discard more cards because of what’s in my trait pile. But since the game is so quick and light, it’s not too bad.
