Yaaarrr! These six-sided seas be dicey, maties! Only a true pirate can succeed out here. Fire yer cannons, gather yer coins, and conquer the powerful islands … if ye dare. Go now and make your captain proud!
What Is It?
✨Theme – Pirates!
🎯There are 3 ways to win – You can deplete your opponent’s health, gain more than 21 coin limit, or control 4 or more islands at the start of your turn
⚙️Dice Rolling / Push Your Luck / Worker Placement – Each turn players will roll dice until they hit their coin limit, choose to stop, or bust. They will use the dice values for various actions such as attacks, defense, claiming islands (which give the controlling player special abilities), and increasing coin limit
Who Is It For?
👥2 Players – Strictly head to head
👥Ages 8 & Up – Pretty straightforward ruleset; actions laid out nicely on the mat
👥Fans of head to head battles, dice rolling, push your luck, and multiple ways to win
PROS
🟢Aesthetics / Components – Playmat looks great and is very nice quality
🟢Turns are snappy / game plays quickly
🟢Multiple ways to win
🟢Good variety in actions
🟢Quick setup/cleanup
🟢Rules are well written and clear

CONS
🔴You start with 12-13 coin limit, so if you roll high early on (5/6) you might only get 2 dice in a round – you can push your luck, but if you bust you get nothing except a little defense. I wish there were more ways to mitigate dice because 2 vs 4 dice in a round makes a huge difference when a lot of actions need 3 dice.
🔴I like the mat, but storing this long box is kind of annoying
Final Thoughts
It’s a simple game, and it can definitely be fun and exciting. It’s quick, and it’s light, and it is also very lucky. You can gain things like rerolls and flipping dice if you can claim certain islands, but in that way it often felt like a “rich get richer” situation because if you are rolling the right dice to claim the islands, you get rewarded with ways to change dice which will help you claim more islands, or do more actions. The 3 different ways to win can help with the luck nature of the game, but just don’t go into this one with too much of a strategy haha.
