Fluxx is a game all about change! The rules don’t stay the same for long, and neither do the win conditions. This time around, you’ll need to put on your wordsmith hat in order to pull off that win!

A new theme to the Fluxx line. It is a hand management card game where players start off with the rules of “draw one + play one card, and there are 4 types of cards:

  • Actions let players draw and play more cards, and sometimes steal from or swap with others
  • New Rules can replace the draw or play rules, or add hand/keeper limits, or just give players bonus actions
  • Keepers go in front of players, and are used to achieve goals
  • Goals tell players how to win the game (i.e. create a word with a silent letter)

  • 1 to 6 Players – Solo is okay, just going for the best score. I prefer multiplayer. Any count is fine, but I think 2-4 is my preference
  • Ages 8 & Up – Small and approachable ruleset, great for all ages and skill levels
  • Fans of slightly chaotic card games and light word games

  • Easy set-up/clean-up
  • Small and straightforward ruleset
  • Quick turns
  • Small/portable; doesn’t need a large play area
  • No creepers like older versions of the game
  • Most goals have multiple ways to accomplish them. Things like “make a palindrome” or a “5+ letter verb,” so it’s not just about hoping you draw just the right card(s), you have to use some word crafting too
  • The meta-rule is neat – you can play for a certain amount of time, and the player with the most goals at that point wins, instead of just the
  • Luck of the draw can play a big factor
  • I wish solo had an official win condition (i.e. ‘complete 5 goals’)
  • Art isn’t that interesting, since it’s just letters

I think this is a fun new twist on the classic card game. I particularly like how the goals are a bit different than usual; it made the game feel a bit fresher, and led to a little more fun tension in wondering when the best time to play a goal was. This one seemed like it didn’t have as many actions, at least not as many that mess with other players, but I don’t mind that, if it is the case. Overall, it’s a nice little word game!
