Do you have a knack for spelling? Then you are ready for the Alphabet War!Play your letters to create new words, and devastate your opponents with attacks and punch-uation marks! Get rid of all your cards to be the ultimate victor!
What Is It?
✨Theme – Alphabet Lore; Spelling/Word Game
🎯The Goal of the game is to be the first to get rid of all your cards
⚙️Hand Management – Players take up to 3 actions per turn and are trying to use all their cards
⚙️Spelling – Players must create a word by the end of their turn by adding/removing/rearranging letters with their actions
⚙️Take-That – Players can use cards to skip others, reverse turn order, and “attack,” making others draw cards
Who Is It For?
👥3 to 6 Players – I think because of the player interaction, it’s best at 5-6
👥Ages 8 & Up – Rules are pretty simple. Players are changing a single shared word each turn, so even at different skill levels, players should be able to manipulate the word on their turn
👥Fans of the Alphabet Lore show and/or spelling/word card games
PROS
🟢Aesthetics – Fun art, matches the show; bright colors
🟢Rules are well written
🟢Turns are quick and snappy
🟢I like that you can use punch-uation marks as basic abilities or defensively against attacks
🟢Good variety of possible actions
🟢I like that you just have to form a word by the end of the turn, so it gives you wiggle room while taking actions

CONS
🔴Luck of the Draw – If you get some of the arguably harder letter (x, qu) you might have a harder time using them. Or if someone gets a bunch more punch-uation than others, they’ll be able to avoid attacks more
Final Thoughts

To be totally honest, I did not know what Alphabet Lore was before this, so I was going in pretty blind. With that, I thought the game was pretty good. I thought it was a unique take on spelling/word card games – having a shared, single word with multiple ways to manipulate it. I can generally do without take-that in any game, but it’s not too bad in this since it is such a short and quick game. Overall, worth playing for fans of the show, or fans of word games!
