Filming is wrapping up for your conservation TV show WildWorld, but all of a sudden, your production tent is ransacked! Something is wrong, and you’ll have to get to the bottom of this if you want the show to get finished so that you can make a different for all the Galápagos penguins. We’d better get to work!
What Is It?
An 18-card, cooperative escape room style game. Players work their way through a variety of puzzles, all part of one narrative – finishing up the Galápagos penguins segment of your wildlife TV show.
Players will input their answers on a website app to know how/when to advance to new cards in the game. The website also has hints and information available to help players as needed.
Who Is It For?
- 1 or More Players – I like it best at 2 since it’s small and you don’t see a ton of puzzles at once, but it’s always nice to have someone to bounce ideas off of
- Ages 12 & Up – Some puzzles are trickier than others (this is rated a 2 out of 3 difficulty). It might be good for a family or players with experience in puzzle games
- Fans of puzzles/riddles and escape rooms
- Players who don’t mind an online element
PROS
- Small/portable; don’t need a huge playing area
- Great theme – fun and educational
- I loved finding out fun penguin facts throughout the game
- There is a little ‘information’ symbol on some cards to let players know when the provided outside info is needed, which is very convenient
- Good variety of puzzles
- Website is responsive and easy to navigate
- Visually appealing
- Without spoiling too much, I really enjoyed the ending/final puzzle. I thought it made for a very accomplished feeling when playing
- Not too complex, but still enough challenge to be fun, even if you’re an avid escape room player
CONS
- I wish the website had some background music/sounds for ambiance to the theme
- Size – Sometimes it’s hard to have multiple players work on puzzles at once because of the size + it can easily get lost on your shelf
Final Thoughts
I’ve been a big fan of the Holiday Hijinks series of 18-card escape rooms for a while, so I was excited to see this twist – new theme, new series.
I still really like the puzzles, and I thought this definitely stood out from the holiday series. It had a similar vibe, but didn’t just feel like they put a new theme on the system. Plus, it offered that educational element that was really fun.
I definitely recommend this to anyone who is fans of penguins and escape rooms, and I can’t wait to see what other animals we can learn about!
