Do you think you know the birth and death dates of famous people? Or maybe you just know how old they were when they died? Or even, perhaps, their cause of death? You’ll need to put all that knowledge to the test if you want to beat your opponents in Deadlines!
What Is It?
🥅 The Goal – Players want to have the least penalty points at the end of the game
⚙️Trivia – Players will test their knowledge of famous people’s birth/death years, lifespans, and in some cases cause of death
⚙️Party Game – Allows play with a large group
⚙️Take-That – There is the potential to give players penalty points if you guess a correct cause of death on special cards
Who Is It For?
👥1 or More Players – The box says 1 to 10, but you could play co-op with any number of players, or make small teams for competitive. The game length will vary more based on how well players are doing than the number of players
👥Ages 12 & Up – Very approachable gameplay, but the theme might be a bit much for a younger audience
👥Fans of trivia, or the game Timeline
PROS
🟢Rules are well-written
🟢Easy set up and clean up
🟢Turns are quick and snappy
🟢There’s a bunch of game variants which can help keep the game fresh
🟢Unique theme
🟢Wide range of people on the cards

CONS
🔴I thought the keyword guessing on the special cards was fun, but since they decks are random, it seemed a little imbalanced that some players got the chance at the bonus and others didn’t
🔴With the basic rules, the game can run way too long; getting 12 cards in each column can be tedious. I’d always opt for a variant to shorten it
🔴Isn’t super different play to play
🔴Not much for artwork in the game
Final Thoughts
As soon as I read the rules, the game reminded me of Timeline, which I’d played before. This just had a very specific theme. I thought it was definitely an interesting game, and it can have some really fun moments, depending on what cards are already out, where players are torn between where they think a card will fall. The only downside is, if you play too much or too often, you may start to memorize some cards, which can detract from replays. But overall, it works well and can be fun with a trivia-minded group.
