Are you a fan of puzzles? Think you can master 200 brain challenges all on your own? Put your skills to the test with Ingenious: Single-Player Travel Edition! Let’s check it out.
What Is It?
Pattern Building, Abstract Game – In this game you will start each challenge with a few pre-determined tiles on your grid (marked on the challenge card) and you will then need to figure out the correct configuration of all the other tiles to cover the placement area completely
Who Is It For?
- 1 Player – This is a solo only game, but you can compete against others if you have multiple copies of the game
- Ages 10 & Up – There are 4 difficulty levels. The early ones are very approachable, and great for younger players, or beginners, while the later challenge cards are a bit more brain-burny, but will be better once you’ve played through earlier cards
- Fans of abstract puzzles and solo games
- Players on the go, or with limited playing space
PROS
- Quality – All around great. The case is nice, the draw slides in and out smoothly, the tiles have a nice feel and fit onto the play area well
- Small and portable!
- Rules are clear
- Lots of variety in challenges/difficulty
- Easy set-up/clean-up; pretty quick game

CONS
- I thought the early challenge cards (especially the ones where you use less of the tiles) were too easy and barely felt like a game
- Similarly, the earlier challenges get a little repetitive after a few
Final Thoughts
Overall, this is a solid, solo brain game. I ended up skipping a lot of the easier challenges because I personally found the later challenges a lot more fun because you really had to think about all the possibilities, especially for the ones that have the question mark spots.
It’s definitely neat though that the difficulty ranges so much, so it’s great for a wide age and skill range. I think the quality is great, and it really is something I think you could bring with you anywhere!
