Monsters roam these woods … and they’re looking to put out your campfire and attack while hidden by the darkness. Can you survive until dawn, or are the attacks too much for your heroes to handle?

🥅The Goal of the game is to survive until dawn by playing through rounds until enough time has passed (the night card in the deck will tick down to pass time)
⚙️Solo play
⚙️Grid Movement – Monsters will move around the fire when they are revealed in order to start in spots without heroes. Heroes will move around the fire to line up with monsters and defend against them.
⚙️Action Points – Each hero gets 2 action points per turn. They can use these to move, defend, promote, retrieve previously discarded cards, or give another hero extra AP. When promoted, heroes have slightly varied abilities (i.e. Firetender hasa passive that can protect the fire)

👥1 Player – Solo only game
👥Ages 10 & Up – I think it’s pretty approachable, simple game flow. The reference cards help with learning the actions/movements
👥Fans of quick/small solo games with a bit of a puzzle aspect

🟢Aesthetics – This isn’t a final copy of the game, but I will say I really like all the art!
🟢Rules are well written
🟢Reference Card is very handy, as I personally had a hard time remembering what all the movement symbols meant for heroes
🟢Game flows really well; rounds fly by once you know how to play
🟢Small/portable; don’t need a huge play area
🟢Can scale difficulty a bit if you want a bit more challenge

🔴I felt like I needed some kind of small trackers/tokens for the action points to mark once I was done with a character, especially since bolstering (giving someone else AP) has you do that specific AP immediately
🔴Luck of the shuffle – sometimes you can have a few bad events in a row which can lead to a harder game

Overall, I think it’s a solid solo game. I felt a little bit of a puzzle aspect when playing – planning out which hero should go when, how they should move, et cetera – which I really liked. It took me a few plays to learn all the symbols for actions/movement, but once I was more familiar with everything I thought the flow was really good. While I didn’t think the difficulty levels changed the game too much, I also still appreciated the option to have a bit of an easier/harder game too. If you’re a solo player and appreciate a small footprint game – check this one out!
