The provinces of Sardegna are waiting to be settled. Increase your influence by building forts and villages, bringing your ships into the harbors, and populating the areas with priests and villagers. And don’t forget to have your farmers harvest as many crops as they can! Only the one who best utilizes their characters will arise victorious!

Action Selection and Retrieval – Each turn players will play one of their character cards and take the associated action (building, harvesting, etc). Eventually, someone will need to play their Sentinel, which will trigger scoring and allow all players to pick up their cards to be able to play them again

Hand Management – Players can only use a card once before a Sentinel is played, so they must use cards wisely so they don’t miss out on an action their need before scoring

Area Majority – Players are trying to use their various pieces to gain influence in the various provinces. Players will score more victory points for having the most influence in a province

  • 2 to 4 Players – I think the game is just fine at 2, I always think area majority works better with more, so I think it shines at 3 or 4
  • Ages 13 & Up / Mid-Weight Gamers – Needs a bit of strategy, so more experienced gamers will likely enjoy it a bit more. I also think the theme probably won’t appeal to many younger gamers
  • Fans of area majority and action selection/retrieval
  • Players who enjoy a tight board

  • Aesthetics – Looks nice on the table; nice art on the cards
  • Components – good / solid pieces
  • Box is magnetic and folds out into the board which is neat, and makes it more compact and portable than needing to fit a board in the box
  • Rules are well-written and clear
  • Good variety of actions to choose from (plus one card that lets you copy an action you played already)
  • I love that all players get to pick up their cards when a Sentinel is played – it eases my usual complaints in other similar games of having to spend a whole action to just pick up your cards and do nothing else
  • While the ability to swap score cards is interesting, I don’t love it because it means you can’t plan ahead and strategize as much as seems necessary
  • I don’t care for the theme
  • Can seem a bit long for what it is; rounds a little repetitive

Overall, I find the game to be just fine, but to be fair, I wouldn’t say I’m much the target audience for it. I’m not huge on area majority or action selection and retrieval, which are the crux of the game.

I do like the card play a bit more than usual, though, as well as the ability to move pieces around the board, which I don’t see commonly.

If you like the mechanisms, though, you’ll probably enjoy it more than me!
