Evil forces are at play and corruption is spreading in Morta. It’s up to you, Bergson family, to work together to defeat monsters and eliminate the evil once and for all!

⚙️Cooperative – Players will work through the story together
⚙️Dice Rolling – The primary aspect of the game is encountering enemies in combat, which is resolved via dice rolls
⚙️Variable Players Powers – Each player takes on the role of a different character, each with unique abilities which can be upgraded throughout the adventure
⚙️Variable Gameplay – Story Mode is where players play through the campaign, which has several chapters, gain upgrades, and discover secrets. Family Trial Mode is a one-session game with several encounters/boss fights, with all progress being lost at the end

👥1 to 4 Players – For me, the set-up/upkeep is too much for solo. I think I’m partial to a full 4 because it allows you to see more of the various powers on the different chracters
👥Ages 12 & Up – There’s a lot of front-loading when it comes to the rules, but gameplay is mostly dice rolling, so it’s not too difficult once you get into it
👥Fans of narrative adventure games / “rogue-like” experiences
👥Players who don’t mind the luck of dice

🟢Aesthetics – Nice art across everything
🟢Components – Nice quality across the board, especially the dual layer player boards and the neat storybook
🟢Each character is unique and has different upgrades you can work toward
🟢Players can do a lot of their actions simultaneously, which keeps the game from dragging on
🟢Rules were a lot, but pretty easy to parse through

🔴A lot of the symbols are very small, and the colors on skill tokens (on black backgrounds) are not easily distinguishable, often due to the size
🔴Luck of the dice rolls – even when you upgrade to better dice, you still always have a chance to roll blanks, which can be really frustrating
🔴On top of the dice, randomness from drawing skill tokens from the bag can be annoying because you might not get what you need for your better abilities

Overall, I thought the concept of this one was neat, and I liked the story/theme of it. I just thought that the luck was really compounding, so it felt a little flat for me, because I didn’t feel like my characters got much better throughout the game. If you’re big into this style of game, I think it’s worth trying, it just didn’t end up being my favorite.
