The Empire has ruled for far too long and everyone fears their regime will never end. Everyone except for the Rebellion. They have planned and prepared and are ready to liberate the districts and end the Empire’s reign once and for all. Will they succeed, or will the Empire be in control forever?
What Is It?
Asymmetric Play – The Rebellion player will be playing through a deck of cards, assigning the cards to various districts. The Empire player will be using action tokens to take 2 actions per turn including destroying cards, revealing cards, and more.
Set Collection – The Rebellion player is trying to collect certain sets of their cards at districts in order to complete the missions available in the game to liberate a district. They need to liberate 3 districts to win.
Who Is It For?
- 2 Players – Strictly a head-to-head game
- Ages 10 & Up – Pretty simple gameplay (especially for the Empire); good for a pretty wide range of ages/experience
- Fans of different styles of play for both players; 2 player games
Expansions
Uprising – Campaign of 3-6 games. First person to win 3x wins the game. Adds enhancement cards for both sides to improve them, and scenario cards which alter the game – This expansion definitely adds more variety as the enhancements can let players draw extra cards, move cards around, and more. If you enjoy the game already, and would want to play it as a small campaign, it’s worth checking out because each game will be a little different, and if you lose, you get extra enhancement which is a cool catch-up mechanism.
PROS
- Aesthetics – Nice artwork
- Components – Nice cards, tiles, and power tokens
- Plays quickly
- Turns are smooth
- Nice insert (for the base game)
- Expansion really adds to the overall variability

CONS
- Expansion doesn’t fit in the base game box nicely with the insert
- Theme is tacked on / generic
- I felt the Empire side was lacking in gameplay
Final Thoughts
Overall, this fell a little short for me. I thought the Empire side left a lot to be desired, especially since you didn’t have a choice in your actions every other round. It just felt kind of dry. The Rebellion side was a bit more interesting since you had more decision space with your cards each round, but the decisions still didn’t feel that exciting to me.
The expansion improved the game a bit because some of the enhancements and scenarios could be more interesting, but making the game a 3-6 game campaign was not for me because the game didn’t draw me in enough to keep coming back that much.
In the end, this one wasn’t for me, but if you like a pretty quick, asymmetric 2-player game, it might be more up your alley!
