Your wacky floating landscape awaits! Will you have villages galore? A mountain range that stretches for miles? Or perhaps a river that cuts right through everything? There’s only one way to find out – let’s make some confusing lands!
What Is It?
Drafting – Each round players each draw 2 cards. They’ll choose one to add to their landscape and one to pass to their opponent who must use it
Multi-Use Cards – Each card is unique and each has one side with various symbols, blank spots, and a scoring condition, and another side with only symbols or blank spots.
Layering / Pattern Building – With each new card, players must cover at least 1 space on a previously placed card. They’ll also be working to arrange the cards in whatever ways necessary to capitilize on any of their available scoring conditions.
Who Is It For?
- 1 to 2 Players – You can play solo or head-to-head. I personally prefer it at 2.
- Ages 10 & Up / Light Game Fans – Straightforward rules. Very approachable to a wide audience
- Fans drafting and pattern building
- Players who like a lot of variability for play and scoring
Variants / Promos
Solo – Built in way to rotate the cards to simulate a draft. Compare your score to a chart in the rulebook – It’s a fine variant for practice or just to try out different scoring abilities. It’s a little more puzzley because you’re only focused on what you need each pair, since you just discard the other one. I much preferred the 2 player game because I liked the strategy in looking at the cards and deciding if you needed to keep a card just because you didn’t want to pass it to your opponent.
Promo Set #1 – Available at PAX Unplugged 2024! – 6 new cards to add to the deck. It extends the game a bit since players now draft 10 cards instead of 8. Some spots have double symbols, and the scoring conditions let you score for what’s in your opponent’s landscape instead of your own – I thought this was a super neat addition to increase the variability and add a little more strategy with what scoring objectives you’re willing to pass. It’s super easy to shuffle right in, and I like that it makes the game just a little bit longer.
PROS
- Aesthetics – Nice art/graphic design; landscapes look cool when finished
- Components – Nice box/insert, good cards and scorepad. I think it’s a nice touch that it comes with a pencil
- Rounds are quick and smooth
- Rules are well-written and clear
- Great variability with the options you have with how to use the cards, what you’re willing to pass, and even just which cards you’ll see in a game
- Promo Pack is a great way to increase the variety as well
- Love that the scoring conditions are numbered do it’s easy to find them in the rules
- Fun balance of adding scoring conditions to your landscape knowing that you’ll lose 10 points for each at the end
CONS
- I do wish there was an extra reference card with a copy of the scoring conditions so players didn’t have to pass the rules back and forth
- There’s a bit of luck of the draw, if you just aren’t getting useful scoring conditions it can get frustrating. But since it’s short, it isn’t bad
Final Thoughts
I thought this game sounded neat, but for such a small game, I didn’t expect it to pack such a punch! Even after my first play I was pretty impressed by it. It can be tricky to balance when it’s best to add a scoring condition or not, but I really like how much decision space you have for how to use each card. I also enjoy how different every game feels because of the shuffle, and not using every card in the deck. It’s a really solid small, quick game, that I definitely recommend!
