Are you feeling lucky? Lucky enough to flip over 7 different number cards? Or will your streak end in a bust, or a simple choice to stop while you’re ahead and collect those sweet points instead? There’s only one way to find out – playing Flip 7!

A push your luck card game where each round a player is the dealer and starts by dealing each player a card. Then, they go around asking if each player would like to “hit” (get another card) or “stay” (exit the round and collect their current points). Players are trying to have the most points at the end of the round when at least 1 player hits 200 points.

There are 1 one, 2 twos, 3 threes, and so on through 12, so players have to hit strategically in order to avoid busting. They earn points on the number cards they have flipped (i.e. a 6 is worth 6 points) plus any modifiers they have. If they ever flip over a number they already have in front of them, they bust and score nothing that round. A round ends when all players exit (bust or stay) or someone flips 7 different number cards (they also earn a bonus for this)

There are also action cards in the deck which can be played on any active player and can cause players to leave the round early, flip 3 cards (even if they don’t want to), or might give them a “second chance” to play when they would bust.

  • 3 or More Players – Technically, there is no limit, but it would likely get a bit boring with too many people. I think it works well with 3 to 7.
  • Ages 8 & Up / Family or Light-Weight Gamers – It’s a very light game with minimal rules. No reading required, and not much strategy; great for a wide audience
  • Fans of push your luck and light card games

  • Aesthetics – Love the metallic looking box; very crisp / clean graphic design on the cards
  • Rules – Well-written and straightforward
    • Very approachable for lots of players
  • A good level of tension at times debating whether to risk pushing your luck
  • Turns are very quick
  • Small / portable
  • I like that getting a “Flip 7” earns you a bonus in addition to the card points themselves since it is very difficult to do!
  • Depending on how scoring / busting goes, the game can run a bit long for what it is
  • The action cards can be a little frustrating since you can play them on others and force them to draw or leave the round. Since you are already pushing your luck, I think it would make sense if you had to use them yourself

I have to say, it’s a bit presumptuous calling it “the greatest card game of all time,” haha!

But, it’s certainly fun, and I definitely like that I can play it with pretty much anyone. I think it’s a good filler game, or great for a family game night, so if you’re looking for a quick play, this is a nice choice!
