It’s a beautiful day to eat bugs – Snatch up delightful bites from the pond, or right off your fellow frogs’ tongues! But watch out for predators so you don’t get eaten up yourself. The fullest frog will surely be deemed the most victorious one in the pond!

Ladder Climbing – In order to collect cards from the pond, players need to play cards of the same number or one higher to snatch them up

Take-That – If they have the right cards, players can steal creature snacks from in front of their opponents, thus depriving them of points

Hand Management – Players can only play cards orange to orange or purple to purple (blue on either), so coupled with the number rule, they must be a bit strategic in their card play so they don’t run out of moves to make with their hand

  • 3 to 6 Players – Scales well at any count; “last bite” card is put at different levels in the deck to different player counts to keep the game roughly the same length
  • Ages 8 & Up / Family or Light-weight Gamers – Pretty small rule set, quick teach and play, good for a wide audience
  • Fans of card games with a little counting and matching
  • Players who don’t mind a bit of take-that / stealing

  • Aesthetics – Fun art and a nice color scheme
  • Small and portable, don’t need a large play area
  • Rules are well-written
  • Usually have a decent amount of options on your turn, but without having to be overly strategic
  • Even though there’s some take-that, I like that you can do a “take back” type of action, or just steal it back on a future turn
  • Doesn’t feel great to have your stacks stolen, or to have the stork devour your stack
  • Swarms (blue cards) seem to be too many points (5 versus 1 for every other card). I thought that 3 points would have been better, to bring scores a little closer, if someone is lucky enough to get multiple swarms scored

It never feels good to have cards you earned stolen, which is why I’m usually not huge on take-that type games. But I honestly didn’t mind in this game. There was a lot of opportunity for stealing cards back and forth, or using the “reclaim” action to basically block a steal, so it wasn’t nearly as bad as other games.

I liked the straightforward nature of the game and I think it will appeal to a pretty wide audience of all ages and skills levels, which is neat. If you enjoy a light card game, check it out!
