You start with 8 cards, and all you have to do is get rid of them all. Easy, right? Well… maybe not. Other players will try to capitalize on your moves and make you draw penalty cards so that they can get rid of their cards first! Let’s see who comes out on top!

A card game where players will play a card each turn to one of the 2 discard piles for that card’s color. Then, players look at the difference between the card played and the other discard pile of that color. If other players have any cards that fall within that gap, they yell “Cabanga!” and discard them, which will cause the active player to draw an equal number of cards from the penalty pile. Once a player sheds all their cards, all other players score the points remaining in their hands. The game ends when someone hits 18 points, and the player(s) with the lowest score wins!

  • 3 to 6 Players – Scales well, not too long even at the full player count
  • Ages 8 & Up – Very light and approachable, only a few rules
  • Fans of light, simple card games and card shedding
    • Plus, a little chaos with being able to discard on other people’s turns

  • Turns are quick and smooth
  • Rules are well written and clear
  • Good card quality
  • Nice, vibrant colors
  • Good for a wide age/skill range
  • Small/portable; doesn’t need large play area
  • Quick teach and set-up
  • I’m not a big fan of folded rules (versus a booklet)
  • Luck of the draw can sometimes leave you with subpar options
  • You take a penalty card if you play the same color card as the last player, but there’s no included way to track that, and you can easily forget if you’re making conversation at the table, or if a lot of players play “Cabanga” and you’re counting up the penalty cards. We use the box to track it.

Overall, I thought this one was simple, not much strategy involved, but it can definitely be fun. It’s silly when players are yelling Cabanga! and trying to get their cards out, especially when a big gap is created. It’s really approachable, so it’s appealing to a wide audience, which I like. It’s good for family game night, or any fans of lighter card games!
