It’s time to find out who will be the quickest word slinger of them all! Can you think of words and sentences that fit the categories fast enough to get rid of all the letter cards in your hand? Or will you get stuck with one too many lightning bolts. Time to put your skills to the test!

What Is It?

Speed-Based Party Word Game – Players start with 5 letter cards in hand each round. A new theme is revealed to start the round. They must think of a word or sentence starting with a noun or verb that starts with one of their letters in order to play a card.

The theme changes after 3 cards have been played (whether by the same player or multiple players) and the 1st player to run out of cards wins the rounds. Everyone else scores the number of lightning bolts on cards left in their hands.

The game ends when one player hits 40 points, and the player with the least points wins.

Who Is It For?

  • 2 to 7 Players – It’s definitely more fun and interesting with more players, but it’s fine with a lower count too. Sometimes can be a bit long with more players
  • Ages 10 & Up / Light or Party Gamers – Wide range of categories, and very approachable gameplay
  • Fans of speedy word games – for those can think quick on their feet!

PROS

  • Small, simple ruleset
  • Don’t need much space to play / portable
  • Quick rounds
  • Works well with a wide audience and at many player counts
  • I like the flexibility in answers you can give, it’s not limited to just a single word

CONS

  • The white letters on yellow background is not a great look, it’s very blinding
  • Overall aesthetics are also boring. I wish there were even some simple images (like the cover image) on some of the cards
  • It can sometimes go on a bit long / overstay it’s welcome because gameplay starts to get repetitive

Final Thoughts

It’s a cute little party game that can certainly lend itself to a lot of laughs if you play with the right people. I do wish it had a better look, but I try not to mind much since it is such a fast game. If you’re not a quick thinker when it comes to word association, you’ll likely want to pass on this, but if you think you can be speedy enough, check it out!
