Our Elders tell tales of the past – countless planets, resource rich asteroids, and more. We’re ready to do some of our own exploring, to make our ancestors proud. Let’s journey into the stars, see what we can find, and become the greatest civilization in the galaxy!
What Is It?
🥅The Goal is to have the most points at game end
⚙️Dice Rolling – Players start each turn by rolling dice to determine which planet(s) produce resources
⚙️Action Selection – Players can perform 2 high command actions per turn (populate for player pieces, tax for resources, attack, and/or discover planets). They can also perform each division action once per turn (intel lets them spend resources to complete missions, mining lets them mine an asteroid for resources, and labor lets them exhaust a population for resources). Players also have unlimited movement.
⚙️Modular Board – Planets are drawn randomly, and player can place them as they like, so the board will be different every game
⚙️Events – Triggered when certain things happen throughout the game, and may have instant or ongoing effects
⚙️Variable Player Powers – Each player has their own power to manipulate dice, and a unique trait to help them score points at the end
Who Is It For?
👥1 to 5 Players – Solo has 3 different AI opponents to choose from (you can also use these with 2-4 players). The game scales well for any count, but I think it shines most at 4
👥Ages 14 & Up – Definitely need a bit of strategy. There are a bunch of different actions to learn/understand, so it’s a bit more involved than your typical “welcoming” game
👥Fans of space games, action selection, and player interaction
PROS
🟢Aesthetics – Nice art, fun table presence
🟢Components – Love a dual layer board; all the player pieces and cards are nice quality
🟢Replay Value – Game will be a little different every time
🟢Rules are well written
🟢Scales well at any count
🟢The dice rolls for resources keep everyone invested in every turn
🟢A lot of choice turn to turn with the various actions

CONS
🔴One set of player pieces seemed mismatched – the tokens were more of a red, while the population were more of a purple
🔴Sometimes the game can end a bit abruptly, if a player can trigger multiple events on their turn (which is fairly common). I wish instead of just finishing the round, you finished and played one more.
🔴I do think the game works at 5, but it definitely adds more downtime between turns, and it’s less exciting being the exhausted player, not getting resources once a round
🔴Some of the traits seemed much better than others, as some capped out at a certain score while some didn’t
Final Thoughts
I am not always the biggest fan of space exploration type games, but I thought this was pretty neat. I like all the different actions, and I thought it was interesting to see how it differently it played at different player counts. At 2, we utilized the tax action far more often, whereas at 5, attacking was more likely because you can (hopefully) get multiple player tokens at once.
I thought the traits could be the swingiest part of the game. Particularly, the mission and discovery traits seemed very powerful. But, aside from that, I thought the game felt very balanced. If you like space/exploration type games, it’s worth checking out!
