Ready to order some pizza? Okay! What does everyone want on it? … Well, if we’re all too shy to say, this is going to be much more difficult than we thought. Can you get what you want on the pizza and avoid all your least favorites – even if someone else loves them? Let’s find out!
What Is It?
Hidden Roles – Each player has a hidden role that describes what toppings they like (for positive points) and dislike (negative points) on pizza.
Hand Management – Each turn player will play a card or pass. Some of their cards are unplayable, and some have negative points on them if they are still in their hand at the end of the game. The game ends when a majority of players pass in a row, so they must choose what to play and when wisely!
Who Is It For?
- 3 to 6 Players (2 minimum for cooperative) – I think 4 is a good minimum for this one, and it shines at 5 or 6.
- Ages 12 & Up – It’s tricky to get what you want on the pizza and not give too much away so that others don’t try to mess up your toppings
- Fans of hidden role games (or at least those familiar with the genre)
- Fans of pizza!
Variants
Cooperative – Players create 2 pizzas together. They can score on either one, but each player must score positively on at least 1 in order for everyone to win. In 2-player cooperative mode players have 2 roles and they must score positively on both to win – Co-op makes more sense to me, thematically, and I think it works well. I prefer it 3+ players still though. 2 players is okay, but the 2 roles can be very tricky.
PROS
- Fun theme
- Small/portable – doesn’t need a large play area either
- Plays quickly and smoothly
- Quick teach
- Roles feel balanced
CONS
- Not a ton of variety in what the conversation cards do
- Luck of the draw can sometimes leave you with an unfortunate hand
- While light, I do think people unfamiliar with hidden roles may find it difficult
Final Thoughts
This is a demo copy, so I can’t really comment on the art/components much, but I think it’s pretty cute anyway.
It’s a light game with a great theme. I thought both versus and co-op worked well, but I think I lean toward 3+ player cooperative the most. It feels like a great filler for a group … maybe while they’re waiting for their pizza delivery!
