Top 10 Games of 2024

I don’t always get a chance to play a lot of the newest, hottest board games, but I played a fair amount of games from 2024 (about 80 titles!) So I wanted to put together of list of a few of my favorites from this year. What was your favorite board game that came out in 2024?

2023’s TOP 100!

Welcome back to another Top 100, Gamers! I go back and forth on this list a lot every year because I feel like it is so difficult to compare all of the different games that I love. I use this fancy ranking engine, because I do think it’s the best/easiest way to get this list, but sometimes it’s just hard to choose between certain games because you have to factor in mood, players, group size, and more.

I admit, this list might not be totally perfect, and I might sometimes pick my #83 before my #24 depending on some of those factors. Regardless, these are all some very awesome games, which I totally love, and I think you should also check them out or ask me to talk about them non-stop – haha!

New games below are noted with a (N) while games that appeared on last year’s list have (#) next to them, with whatever number they came in at last time. Let’s dive in.

Top 100 as of 2022!

Another year is coming to a close, gamers, and that means it is time for me to update my Top 100! As always, it’s never easy to pick out my favorite games, because it honestly varies day to day! But I tried my best to narrow it down, by sorting out my highest ranked games (rated 8+), and getting a little help from this neat lil ranking engine. So, here it is in all it’s gaming glory! Let’s check it out…

Top 10 X and Write Games

About 3 years ago (7/11/19) I posted about my new favorite mechanism in games – roll & writes. It was pretty new to me at the time, and I was fairly enamored by pretty much every game in that category that I played. The genre has expanded a ton since then – I feel like half the games I see also have a roll and write version! It’s definitely still one of my favorite game styles, but my tastes have also changed a bit since my original list. So, let’s revisit and see where we stand now! This list includes roll & write games, flip & write games, and general “do” and write games (i.e. you may roll and flip).

Top 10 AEG Games

Alderac Entertainment Group (AEG) has so many games, that sometimes even I forget everything that’s by them! I have found a lot of great games thanks to them, and so I wanted to put my favorites all together in one list and share them with the world! They have a bunch of variety, so there’s something for everyone. Even if you don’t find it on this list, there might be something of theirs for you too! (Note – I know not everything is still published by them, but my list looks at any games they’ve ever published). Let’s get started!
