Welcome to the 90s! We’re looking for the next big comic book…or maybe books. We’ll only take the hottest themes, but not if they get too overhyped! Use stunts and collectible cover enhancements to get the attention of new readers, and make the big bucks! But, get too greedy and that profit bubble will BUST!
What Is It?
✨Theme – Building Comic Books; Superheroes
🎯The Goal of the game is to have the most money (points)
⚙️Hand Management – Player start with no cards in hand and will be expanding their hand with books, stunts, and enhancements thoughout the game. Each new card costs an additional dollar for every card in hand (i.e. 1st card $0, 2nd card $1, 3rd $2, etc) so players have to manage how many they buy each round
⚙️Simultaneous Play – Most rounds can be played simultaneously as players buy cards, plan books, and collect profits
⚙️Push Your Luck/Market Speculation – Players are all adjusting the hype of the various themes based on their own books’ themes, but as the bubble goes up, it won’t take much for the themes to get overhyped, causing books to cancel, and players to lose out on profit
Who Is It For?
👥2 to 4 Players – I think it works fine at any count, but more players will usually lead to a quicker game because the themes are more likely to get overhyped sooner, leading to a quicker bust
👥Ages 14 & Up – Rules aren’t too heavy, but there’s definitely plenty of strategy in the cards you take and how you build your books
👥Fans of comics/superheroes, hand building/management, and kind of pushing your luck/market speculation play
PROS
🟢Aesthetics – Nice Art
🟢Components – Nice quality
🟢Fun theme, which does shine through the gameplay
🟢Simultaneous play keeps the game moving steadily
🟢Rules are well written

CONS
🔴It can be hard at times to keep in mind all the themes players have on books, or what stunts/enhancements they have; it’s not a “speed” game, but things move quick because of the simultaneous play, so you have to be able to keep up with all the info
🔴Doesn’t feel super different play to play
Final Thoughts
Overall, I thought it was a really fun game. It had a neat theme with some fun characters and I thought the theme worked really well for the mechanisms. I wish the decks were a little bigger so there could be more variety in all the cards, as I felt like after a few plays I had seen them all and could only make so many combos with the books/stunts/enhancements. Still, definitely a fun time, and worth a few plays!
