I’m so excited to once again be attending PAX Unplugged this year! We are just about 2 weeks away, so I wanted to highlight my top 10 most anticipated games that I’m excited to check out. What games, or other aspects of the show, are you most looking forward to this year?
Top 10 Most Anticipated Games
(In no particular order)
Buffet Boss – Arcane Wonders | Drafting / Dexterity
At first glance of the images, it looks like Animal Upon Animal but with food, which isn’t necessarily bad, but also not super exciting. But it does looks like it has a few other elements, and the theme is just fun, so I’m interested to learn more about it.
Chemical Overload – Rebirth Games | Deck building / Tableau building
Definitely love the potion-crafting theme on this, and I generally enjoy deck building games, so this one looks pretty cool!
Inferno – Grand Gamers Guild | Grid Movement / Economic / Worker Placement
The theme on this one really grabs me, and I just think it looks great in general. I’m a big fan of Grand Gamers Guild games in general, so I’m looking forward to this one!
Knitting Circle – Flatout Games | Chaining / Contracts / Abstract
I am a big fan of Calico. I ended up getting rid of the board game because no one I play with liked it, but I still play the digital version myself, which I love. This one seems like it will have some similarities, but also be a unique game, so I’m excited to see how it plays!
Ministry of Lost Things: Case 1 – Lint Condition – PostCurious | Cooperative / Deduction
I love a ton of these kind of deduction, narrative, puzzley type games like escape room or murder mystery-esque. I’ve played a ton of them, and even when they aren’t amazing, I generally really enjoy the experience. I’m absolutely excited about another one coming out, and this seems fun!
Scream Park – DVC Games | Drafting / Hand Management / Set Collection
Horror? I’m in. Theme parks? Double in. The theme is awesome, and the look of the game is so cool too. I am really hoping this one is as good as it looks because I definitely need more spooky things on my shelf.
Sprout – Rabble | Push-Your-Luck / Resource Management
Pushing my luck kind of makes me nervous, but I actually end up liking it in most games. This is a cute looking little game that seems like it’ll play quickly and smoothly, so I think it’ll be a good fit for me.
Stephens – Capstone Games | Contracts / Economic / Set Collection
I actually have a meeting set with Capstone to look at this as well as Tea Garden because they both sound pretty cool. I’ve been really big on games with contract completion lately, so I’m definitely interested in trying another! Plus, my husband’s name is Stephen so, it’s probably a must-have, haha!
Witchdom – Albi | Deck Building / Hand Management
I love a witchy theme! This one looks super cute, but sounds like you’ll need to be strategic and tactical in your play, so I think it’ll be right up my alley. I love the potion-brewing theme, and just the general look of this one.
Witchy Cakes – Mage Hand Press | Hand Management / Matching
Witches and baking? Count me in! Okay, I’m a little hesitant because it lists “take-that” as a mechanism, but I’ll let the witches and baking distract me for now, because this just looks so darn cute.
