Top 5 Five-Player Games

Over time, my gaming group has grown, shrunk, added tables, changed venues, and more. With the size of our current group, it is pretty common for us to split into multiple smaller groups and play a few different games during our weekly game night.

There’s lots of games that are great at 2 to 4 players. I also enjoy a bunch of, usually lighter, games at 6+. But I have found that I am really (and I mean really) not a fan of 5-player games. They’re often too long or slow, or don’t offer enough interaction to keep me invested in the game between my turns. It’s actually a running gag in my group that I hate 5-player games, and would rather split into 3 and 2, or even sit out than play something at 5. (Luckily, we don’t have a 5-player count all that often these days.) All that said, there are some games that I think work well at exactly 5. So here are my favorite 5-player games!

Marvel United: X-Men Rankings

Back again with more Marvel United rankings! Last time, I rated characters from the “season 1” stuff, so this post will be all about the characters from the “season 2” boxes which is mostly X-Men (mutants), but also includes the Fantastic Four and Deadpool boxes. Again, this will be my top 5 heroes / 5 least favorite heroes, and my top 3 villains / 3 least favorite villains. (There’s less villains, so I made those lists shorter). Each list in no particular order because the rankings are very close.

Marvel United Rankings

Upon finally finishing up painting all my Marvel United minis, I was also able to finish playing through all my unplayed characters, and finish rating them all! Originally, I was planning on doing this massive list, rating every hero and villain … but then I decided that would be too long of a post. So, instead, I’m just showing off my top 5 heroes / 5 least favorite heroes, and my top 3 villains / 3 least favorite villains. (There’s less villains, so I just made those lists shorter). Each list in no particular order because the rankings are very close. This is just for the season 1 characters, I’ll do a separate post for X-Men in the near future.

New To Me – April 2023

Another month done and over, and lots of games were played! I had a few new things hit the table at home, but also plenty during our local game store’s 24-hour gaming event. The games aren’t always hits, but it is always fun just to hang out and try something new. Have you ever attended a 24-hour gaming event?

❤️ – Loved It/Always Love It/Favorite (I rate it a 9 – 10)
😄 – Liked It/Will Likely Play Again (I rate it a 7 – 8)
🤷🏻‍♀️ – Okay/Take It or Leave It/Could Play Again (I rate it a 4 – 6)
👎🏻 – Didn’t Like/Would Not Play Again (I rate it a 1 – 3)

10 Games That Left a Bad First Impression

I strongly believe that if you do not like a game after 1 play, you do not have to play it ever again. If you want to try it again, by all means, go for it! But if you’re only doing it because you feel like you “have to,” you definitely don’t have to!

When I dislike a game, I usually say I won’t be playing it again. And, I don’t know how many times I have been told that I “just need to give it another try,” or I “need to try this variant/home rule,” or that I “didn’t get it yet,” or “it’s better on the 2nd or 3rd play.” While all of that is great, if a game doesn’t ‘wow’ me, I just don’t feel like anyone should ever feel obligated to try a game multiple times if you didn’t have a good first experience.

With all that said, here are 10 games that missed the mark for me, and didn’t leave me wanting to come back for more.
