If you love a flip and write games with a bunch of ways to score, then you’ll love Locus! Draft different shapes and focus on maximizing your scoring – while not leaving any area too uncovered!

Theme – Flip & Write
🎯The Goal of the game is to have the highest score
⚙️Open Drafting – Each player will draft a shape card each turn to use on their personal sheet
⚙️Grid Coverage – Each color has its’ own scoring criteria, so players will want to fill in the boxes to maximize scoring

👥1 to 5 Players – Solo is fine, but I prefer it with more players
👥Ages 8 & Up – Simple ruleset, very approachable for all ages
👥Fans of flip & write games and lots of scoring options; players who don’t mind a themeless game

🟢Aesthetics – Colorful!
🟢Rules are well written
🟢Turns/rounds are smooth and snappy
🟢Handy reference cards for rotating and flipping shapes
🟢Lots of ways to score, so players can take different paths
🟢Bit of light strategy in what you choose to draft and how much you choose to spread out among the different colors

🔴Sheets are not double sided, which feels wasteful
🔴Feels very similar to lots of other games in the genre
🔴Can run a bit long for what it is at some player counts

I’ve played a lot of flip & write style games; they used to be a top choice mechanism for me. I’ve started to feel like a bunch of them feel too similar, which makes it hard for them to keep my attention because they aren’t doing much unique. Don’t get me wrong, I think the game is decent, and you have some good space for decision making (some rounds more than others depending on your place in turn order), but overall it feels like just a “I’ll play this every so often, if someone brought it to the table” game rather than “I’m always excited to play it.”
