Amsterdam’s Tulip Festival is underway! Will you build your own colorful bouquet, or focus more on giving tulips to your friends?
What Is It?
🥅The Goal of the game is to have the most points
⚙️End Game Majorities – Players will be giving and collecting 4 different color tulips throughout the game. They can also add cards to the festival to increase a tulip’s value. At the end of the game, players will score points for having the majority (or 2nd/3rd in certain player counts) in each color
⚙️Commodity Speculation – Values will go up and down and cards will be added from the secret festival at the end of the game, which will change values right before scoring
Who Is It For?
👥2 to 6 Players – Works well at any count, but I think 4 is ideal
👥Ages 8 & Up – Rules / actions are streamlined so the game is pretty approachable
👥Fans of commodity speculation, “area” majorities
👥Players who like action variety
PROS
🟢Aesthetics – Really pretty game
🟢Easy set-up
🟢Rules are well-written; the game is very approachable
🟢I think the action system works well, and feels unique; I like that you can’t just choose to always keep, so you’re always debating what the best other action is to do
🟢Good level of player interaction

CONS
🔴The scoreboard is way too small/tight. There’s not enough room for the player pieces, even though they are fairly small too
🔴I thought the symbology for “keeping” and “giving” tulips should have been reversed. My group kept getting them mixed up
Final Thoughts
Overall, I thought it was a solid card game. It’s pretty simple to learn and play, but it has a nice level of player interaction and light strategy in when to give vs keep tulips, and when to add to the festival – whether that’s face up or to the secret festival! The gameplay keeps everyone engaged and it’s a nice relaxing time!
