Back again with more Marvel United rankings! Last time, I rated characters from the “season 1” stuff, so this post will be all about the characters from the “season 2” boxes which is mostly X-Men (mutants), but also includes the Fantastic Four and Deadpool boxes. Again, this will be my top 5 heroes / 5 least favorite heroes, and my top 3 villains / 3 least favorite villains. (There’s less villains, so I made those lists shorter). Each list in no particular order because the rankings are very close.

Top 5 Heroes

  • Dazzler – I love gaining tokens, so I thought her abilities were really cool, and could be really epic if you’re in the right place at the right time.
  • Doctor Doom – While a dastardly opponent when played as a villain, as a hero he has some amazing abilities! If you play them just right, you can have a very epic turn and help the team a ton.
  • Sunspot – I absolutely love his token manipulation and how many he can gain if he has a bunch of movement. He doesn’t give a lot of symbols to the next player, but makes up for it by gaining a lot of tokens for big turns.
  • Warpath – I love being able to draw cards, whether to heal or just buffer him up. He’s decently strong and well-rounded overall.
  • Psylocke – Being able to stun a villain or henchman, and swap around hero cards in the storyline are both such good powers, she’s definitely a beast!

5 Least Favorite Heroes

  • Old Man Logan – He can definitely come in clutch in the end game, but in the meantime, he’s just a boring character. He mostly just collects tokens that he can’t use until the end of the game, and that is if you get to that point in the game.
  • Deadpool – Chaotic and a little annoying. I get that that description is appropriate for him, but it just makes me not want to play as him.
  • Apocalypse – He’s not a bad character, per-say, his abilities are cool. However, most of his cards flip over after you use them, so he’s not a team player, and he can really hinder the player after him since they have a lot less to work with. He can be a decently heavy hitter, but I didn’t like playing after him because I felt useless.
  • Sunfire – I find him to be a very mediocre / boring character. And I do not think that his abilities are that good, especially for some of them being blank at the bottom. The abilities are just too specific and hard to make work well.
  • Puck – In general, I don’t love the Alpha Flight characters because you basically have to play them together or they’re…not great. He has a bunch of single symbols, and boring, circumstantial abilities.

Top 3 Villains

  • Spiral – Having to do thugs/civilians/threats in a particular order was weird, and frustrating at times, but also really neat. It made for a unique experience, and really changed how you went about strategizing.
  • Mystique – Senator Kelly added another layer to the game since you can’t let him take any damage. It can be really tricky, but makes for a fun game every time.
  • Nimrod and the Sentinels – The Sentinels, of course, are such beasts and very cool. Their activation feels very puzzley as you try to figure out best moves. I also really like that there are no missions, so you can attack them right away.

3 Least Favorite Villains

  • Avalanche – Crisis tokens blocking spots on locations is horrible. It causes tons of overflow, but also just prevents you from clearing threats since it makes it so much harder to clear thugs and civilians.
  • Silver Samurai – He was pretty obnoxious. If you get hit too much, you jut pound through your deck, which just makes you weaker. Plus, end of turn abilities on locations are so important, so I’m not a fan of anything that takes that away.
  • Deadpool – The point system is neat, but I don’t like losing the character when you are KO’d and having to pick a new one because it just adds more upkeep to the game.
